MARAKWET ORGANIC FARM

Marakwet Organic Cocoa Farm begins its journey right from the nursery beds, where young cocoa seedlings are carefully nurtured in the rich soils of the Rwenzori ranges. Once matured, the trees produce pods that are harvested and split open to reveal the beans, which are then fermented and dried to bring out their deep, authentic flavor. From there, the beans are taken to CocoMata, where they are processed into chocolate using traditional organic methods that preserve the unique taste of Toro’s cocoa. Staying true to heritage, the chocolate bars are named after cultural landmarks and traditions—Karuzika and Mucwa for dark chocolate, Rwakitura and River Mpanga for milk chocolate—each inspired by the beauty and culture of the Pearl of Africa. The farm’s pride, the CocoMata gift pack, comes in a bark cloth bag and includes a map of Toro, symbolizing the connection between the land, the people, and the chocolate they produce.

Barkcloth Tree Plantation

A Barkcloth Tree Plantation is established by planting fig trees (commonly Ficus natalensis) whose bark is carefully harvested without killing the tree. The bark is stripped, softened, and beaten into sheets that are dried and used to make barkcloth
